Domestic violence is a pervasive problem not only in our local communities but nation-wide. We envision the church combating the evil of violence by being proactive and culturally sensitive to bring about zero tolerance of verbal, physical and emotional abuse through family evangelism and ministry to the abused and the abusers.
Supportive services include monthly support groups, referrals to emergency services and annual Red Flag Conferences.
As an engaging preacher and speaker, I will bring biblical truth, personal testimony and practical information that fosters healing, restoration and transformation.

Ministry Feedback:

I was invited to the First Baptist Church of Glenarden and started attending services during a time when I was in a crisis. I had previously sought counseling from my Pastor who advised to offer my suffering as sacrifice. I knew the word but could not accept that a loving God would have this plan for my life. My husband of 28 years was physically abusive and had threatened me. I remember sitting in the sanctuary in tears during Pastor Jenkins sermon because I just didn’t know what to do. I loved my husband and believe that Marriage is a covenant but did God really mean “till death do us part”? One Sunday after service I had just reached the end point. I was desperate. I stood in the line and spoke to the First Lady. I was so ashamed to tell her what was happening to me. The First Lady probably does not remember this but I said “Good Morning First Lady I enjoyed the service today but I’ve got a problem ….. My husband is trying to kill me. That was one of the hardest things I had to do was to say those words. I will never forget her response. Immediately she took me aside and called her armor bearer who was also part of the FBCG security. She got my name and contact information. The First Lady was so kind and compassionate not condemning or blaming me. In a church of over 10,000 members she called me the next day to follow up. I could not believe that she would take time out of her busy day to check on me. It was the First Lady that connected me to Rev. Linda Thomas and I started attending the Developing Dynamic Self Worth (Domestic Violence) Ministry on Saturdays. I learned how to use the word of God to empower me, create a safety plan, forgiveness and healing. I went from a Victim to a Survivor and now I’m a Thriver. If it had not been for First Lady Trina Jenkins listening with an open heart, reaching out to me in my brokenness and directing me to a ministry that not only changed me it saved my life! I have no words to express my gratitude to the First Lady. You may think she just saved one woman. By helping this one woman she saved my children and my generations yet to come. I thank God for her ministry that is changing lives one person, one woman at a time. Tolores Holmes
